Accept what isn’t working! - Nauman Khan Azeemi

Are you one of those who justify every negative thing happening in your life? Be it your low productivity at work, unhealthy lifestyle, unfinished tasks or unsatisfactory relationships, you always back it up with an excuse to satisfy your conscious. Well, this isn’t alien to most of us because that is exactly what we resort to when we either lack the courage to face the reality or do not have the determination to make things right the way we want. Alduous Huxley, a visionary writer said, “Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.”

The first step to make anything right in your life is to accept the fact that there is some fault which needs to be corrected. Without acknowledging that there is something that needs fixing you cannot begin the journey of evolution of self-improvement. Walter Anderson, prolific editor of Parade Magazine said, “Our lives improve only when we take chances- and the first and most difficult risk we can take is to be honest with ourselves.” Being honest to yourself here implies that it is better to face reality and take action rather than live in a fool’s paradise. If you want to improve any aspect in your life such as health, fitness, work, family and relationships, you need to identify what exactly is wrong and where to take corrective measures. The first corrective action you must take is to learn to acknowledge reality rather than satisfying your ego with false justifications. Charles J. Givens, a real estate strategist and author said, “Doing more of what doesn’t work won’t make it work any better.”

Accepting reality and taking action accordingly is a quality of high achievers. They know exactly what they want from life and direct their efforts and energies accordingly. Acknowledging the flaws and improving on them is what they excel at. We all are humans and it is okay to make mistakes and err. But is important to accept the flaws because that is the first step towards improvement!
