These brilliant thinkers and dreamers nurtured their innovative ideas with the determination to succeed and create a bright future for their country. After passing through various struggles, challenges and setbacks, each of them has built successful enterprises, and have managed to make huge breakthroughs in the world of innovation with their success.
There has been vast development in the field of entrepreneurship in the past few years in Pakistan, and there have been numerous brilliant personalities who have been brought into the limelight as a result of their amazing contributions to society. Some highly successful entrepreneurs of Pakistan whose names must be mentioned in this regard are described as follows:
1- Jehan Ara
Jehan Ara is the President of the Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA). She has been responsible for the development of the P@SHA brand to a great extent, and for developing connections between P@SHA and local and international partners. Jehan has an experience of 29 years in Marketing, Communications, and interactive new media in Hong Kong, the Far East, UAE and Pakistan. She is a motivational speaker, entrepreneur, social activist, and a strong promoter of extending power and use of Information and Communication Technologies, to enable the empowerment of communities. She is a regular speaker at seminars and conferences, and in various universities and colleges across Pakistan. She is also a writer for different industry publications. Among Jehan’s passions are Policy Advocacy through the use of cutting edge technology, which include Cyber Crime, Privacy and Data Protection legislation.
2- Mir Mohammad Ali Khan
Mir Mohammad Ali Khan is an internationally regarded Investment Banker, entrepreneur and Capital Markets Advisor. Mir became the youngest Chairman and Founder of a Full service Investment Bank in America at the age of 29. He is also the first Muslim to have ownership of an investment bank on Wall Street. During the course of his career, he became the Founder and Chairman of The Financial Group, Inc., Federal Advisor to Govt. of Pakistan, a Member of New Jersey Governors Council, a Senior Advisor to New Jersey State Mayors and US State Senators. Mir was the first person to introduce Islamic Banking Research in America. He achieved this by serving as an advisor and co-sponsor to Harvard University to launch Harvard Islamic Finance and Information Program (HIFIP). He has also been featured in “Humans of Pakistan” and “Who’s Who of Top Executives in the World”. In 2015, he became the first Pakistani ever to have a movie produced based on his life, through a first time co-production of Hollywood and Pakistani production industry, Sarmad Films.
3- Rehan Allahwala
Rehan Allahwala is the founder and President of Super Technologies Inc., a US based software company, which aims to provide solutions for the telecom industry. Rehan is an entrepreneur and motivational speaker in Pakistan, who aspires to change people’s lives. He believes that all human beings hold an equal status, and the goal of his life is to ensure that they are treated as equal. He is highly enthusiastic and passionate about creating new businesses. He founded his first company in Pakistan at the age of 13, called Pakistan Computers, and later in high school, he created commodore computer accessories, including Voice Digitalizers, Speed Increasers, and modems. Currently, Rehan is the President and CEO of various international companies, including countries like United States, Singapore, Malaysia, Europe, Dubai and Pakistan. He has a great passion for using his innovative skills in creating services which can prove extremely beneficial for the society, including health and school management systems.
4- Ali Rehan
Ali Rehan is the Co-founder of Eyedeus Labs and Ingrain. Ali graduated from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). He is also the CEO of Groopic Inc., and led a team of five to build, release, and market the Groopic App, a mobile application which enables people to take group pictures and include the photographer as well. Groopic has gained great reviews from TechCrunch, Gizmodo, Cult of Mac and CNN. Ali is the Co-founder of Ingrain, a native advertising platform that allows the user to place automatic and individually targeted online videos in real time. The video publisher can monetize the content without compromising the user experience. Ingrain has made significant technology breakthroughs in solving hardware related problems in Pakistan, particularly in Position Tracking & 3D Scene Understanding problems. Team Eyedeus, led by Ali Rehan, were also shortlisted for the Google Blackbox Connect entrepreneurship accelerator in 2013.
5- Saad Hamid
Saad Hamid is a technology entrepreneur and digital ecosystem builder. Saad is the Founder an CEO of School of Skills, which is a future school that carries the mission of teaching the skills of the future to Pakistan’s youth, particularly in emerging economies, such as technology, storytelling, creativity, innovation, design thinking, emotional intelligence, and social consciousness. Saad was recently associated with Invest2Innovate (i2i) as their Country Lead in Innovation, which aims to help young entrepreneurs accelerate their success and build connections with various opportunities and investment. He has also worked with TED, WEF, IDEO, UNICEF, UNDP, Google, Telenor, and Mobilink, on a wide array of projects related to digital empowerment and community development. Currently, he is working as a part of the Chief Minister of Punjab’s e-rozgaar program, and the Youth Employment program in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
6- Kalsoom Lakhani
Kalsoom Lakhani is the founder and CEO of Invest2Innovate (i2i), which is Pakistan’s premier accelerator for social impact startups. Invest2Innovate supports startup communities in growth markets, as well as the broader entrepreneurship ecosystem. It also serves to strengthen access to capital in growth markets and Insight, which provides detailed analysis of data, to provide a deeper understanding of the startup communities. They have been operational in Pakistan since 2011. Kalsoom has also provided extensive training to several young entrepreneurs, change makers, and civil society leaders in Ireland, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan. She has also served as the keynote speaker for several international forums, including the World Economic Forum, U.S. State Department, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the Global Entrepreneurship Summit.
